The life extension program will bridge the gap between the retirement of the Collins-class and the arrival of the first American Virginia-class submarine.
A total of 20 programs, including F-35 fighter jets to future Hunter-class frigates, face a combined 38 years of procurement delays, according to a new government report.
“The aim is to deliver the first UK submarines into service in the late 2030s to replace the current Astute-Class vessels, and the first Australian submarines will follow in the early 2040s,” said the UK Ministry of Defence.
